About the Catalog

Special Note
The Whatcom Catalog for Philanthropy will soon be replaced by the new Whatcom Council of Nonprofits website. During this transition time, please see WhatcomCounts.org Local Resources for a complete listing of local nonprofit resources.

Welcome to the Whatcom Catalog for Philanthropy
Whatcom County has a long history of charitable giving, which this Catalog is designed to continue in these fast-changing times. Over sixty local Whatcom County charities are highlighted here, and you can learn more about them through a direct link from each charity's entry to Guidestar. Guidestar is the leading repository of information on nonprofits and their finances.

Every penny goes to your chosen cause
We urge you to support these charities with your tax-deductible donations. Every penny you contribute goes directly to the charities you select in this Catalog. Grants from national funders support online giving, and Whatcom Community Foundation is waiving its handling costs for mail gifts through the Catalog. Just to be perfectly clear: 100% of your gifts will go to the organizations you choose.

Giving to your favorite charity
You can give to any of the sixty organizations in this Catalog in one of two ways, and both are quick and easy. In the entry for each charity in this Catalog, you will see this bar with two choices:

1. Online giving: The online option will take you seamlessly to another site, Network for Good. Network for Good is a free online giving service that is easy to use. Fill in the information it requests, and you will get a receipt via e-mail very soon acknowledging your gift. This is proof of your gift for the IRS. Network for Good will mail a check to the charities you choose within a couple weeks, and they can download the information you put on your Network for Good form. To give to more than one charity online, you must repeat the process for each charity.

2. Mailing your donation: If you select the mail option, be sure to visit the Whatcom Counts Local Resources section for the current contact information to mail your gift.

Family giving
Philanthropic decisions are often more personally satisfying when they are made as a family. We urge you to take time with your family to browse through the Catalog. Involve your children or grandchildren. The seeds for a generous spirit are sown early. You will enjoy choosing from the many meaningful endeavors underway right here in our community. This is a wonderful opportunity for each person to find their interests, and express their finest values.
