Young people in today's world face many challenges. To succeed in becoming responsible, caring adults, they need compassionate adult support, challenges to their intellect, and meaningful work to underscore the fact that their skills are needed.
Global Community Institute meets those needs by operating Explorations Academy, a fully-accredited independent school that focuses on experiential learning. Founded in 1995, Explorations challenges students through innovative academic curricula, a focus on fine arts, intensive field experiences throughout the region, and frequent service learning projects.
Explorations uses small classes and personal academics to emphasize individual responsibility, cross-cultural awareness, leadership, and ecological literacy. Students are not simply taught these strengths, but are held accountable for developing them. The result is young adults who are positioned to become leaders in the coming century.
Current initiatives at Explorations Academy include working to further diversify the student body through foreign exchange students and through outreach to a broader segment of the local community. The Academy is also generating important new curricular innovations, expanding the range of field experiences, and improving governance structures.
GCI is committed to serving young people with varied family income levels. Since 1995, Explorations has served over 120 young people and their families. The fact that these families are economically diverse is a direct result of scholarships. Nearly half have received scholarship support, and to date no student has been denied admission for financial reasons. This record, remarkable for an independent school, is built upon the generous support of donors like you.
Your gift to GCI is an investment in the future of young people in our community. While your gift will help individual young people, it will go far beyond individuals in linking youth with the world in meaningful and constructive ways.
