Some community foundation services
Community Foundations (CFs) are designed to offer donors the widest range of charitable-giving options (cash, securities, property, bequests, and planned-giving instruments). As a CF donor, you can participate to any degree you wish in defining your charitable goals and specific allocations.
CFs are permanent entities. In fact, endowed funds in a CF will continue to benefit a community forever - a kind of philanthropic immortality. Funds are protected by law from diversion to other causes, entrusted to the community itself through its representatives.
It takes a whole community to build and maintain a community foundation. This is why CFs readily welcome and depend on resourceful volunteers to share the workload: fundraising, grantmaking, researching, convening, and providing technical expertise (business management, strategic planning, public relations, to name a few) to the other charitable organizations in the community. For the individual or corporate donor, CFs offer guidance for making insightful and cost-effective gifts and grants.
You can make use of the Whatcom Community Foundation in a number of ways. In addition to using the Catalog to give, you can work with the foundation to add funds of various types, you can volunteer, or you can ask for guidance with personal or business charitable giving. The Whatcom Community Foundation is your foundation: local, permanent, flexible and professional.
