Northwest Ecosystem Alliance's mission is to protect the wildlands and wildlife of the Pacific Northwest. NWEA envisions a Northwest that includes natural areas that are healthy, wild, and large enough to sustain viable populations of all native species, including large carnivores.

NWEA works with activists, policy makers, and the general public to make significant progress on the most crucial issues that comprise its long-term vision. NWEA succeeds using a mix of litigation, legislation, media outreach, grassroots organizing and public education.

NWEA's strength lies in mobilizing people to demonstrate support for science-based solutions to conservation problems. Its 9,000 members are partners in the truest sense of the word. Nearly 65 percent of NWEA's income comes directly from its members.

Before it was on the public's radar screen, NWEA was highlighting the plight of endangered salmon. In the late 1980s NWEA hauled a giant Douglas fir log around the country and helped make ancient forest destruction a national issue. Recently, NWEA has become known for its ability to lead cutting-edge land acquisition campaigns. In 18 months NWEA raised $16.5 million to protect 25,000 acres in Washington's Loomis State Forest, the last best habitat for lynx in the lower 48. NWEA is now spearheading another capital campaign, The Cascades Conservation Partnership, which seeks to purchase and protect 75,000 acres of critical wildlife corridor lands in Washington's Central Cascades. NWEA is also leading the coalition effort to protect remaining old-growth and mature federal forests in western Washington and Oregon (the Northwest Old-Growth Campaign).

NWEA has built a reputation as one of the foremost authorities on state and federal land management issues. NWEA continues to scrutinize hundreds of Forest Service timber sales; push for reductions in British Columbia's logging rate through trade negotiations; reform management of Washington state lands; and provide protection for endangered species. Please help NWEA continue to protect our wildlands and wildlife for generations to come, by giving generously.
