The focus of Whatcom Farm Friends is to raise public awareness about the positive contribution that agriculture has on our economy, environment and culture.

Most industries have a single marketing voice that speaks for that industry. Farm Friends is a tool that local farmers can use to speak in a unified voice on the importance of agriculture by educating our community about the beauty and vitality of what we have.

And what does the community gain from agriculture? Obviously, great food that is safe, fresh, and locally produced.

Less obvious, but of great importance, the agricultural community contributes environmental benefits and valuable ecosystem services including salmon habitat enhancement, healthy stewardship of our soil, water, and air. Agriculture in Whatcom County provides open space that is not only productive in terms of agricultural products, but it also provides important wildlife habitat.

Agriculture also contributes to a strong and healthy local economy and preserves an extremely important component of our regions cultural heritage.

Farm Friend's biggest project is its annual Farming, For Life! exhibition at the Mount Baker Rotary building during the August Northwest Washington Fair. This event celebrates farming in Whatcom County through beautiful photos of farms, landscapes, crops and people. This project shows how agriculture improves quality of life and how our communities are enriched by agriculture.

Please help Farm Friends support and preserve agriculture in Whatcom County.
