"Without the sliding fee scale at Bellingham Childcare and Learning Center, I would not be able to pay for childcare or to continue working. I would have been forced to remain on welfare. As a result of this program, my family looks forward to a bright, healthy and happy future." ~ BCLC Parent

Bellingham Childcare and Learning Center has been helping families in Whatcom county for over 25 years. Its name may have changed, and there have been other changes along the way, but the vision and commitment of a group of dedicated individuals many years ago has not faded.

Each day, 72 children come to BCLC while their parents work or attend school. Sixty percent of these children are from low-income families. Since tuition is based on ability to pay, parents are able to work and/or seek education as they strive for economic self-sufficiency. The ability to provide tuition on a sliding scale is funded by such sources as the United Way, City Block Grant funds, and grants and donations from the community.

BCLC is the only childcare center in the community dedicated to providing affordable childcare for children ages one month to five years. Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, BCLC meets the highest national standards for quality and care.

BCLC is seeking funding for are a new roof, new flooring, retiring the debt incurred when they replaced defective siding, and expansion of its parent education program.

All children deserve the best early learning experiences and opportunities regardless of income. Your generous donation provides direct tuition assistance for low-income families. Your gifts are an investment in children, families, community, and, ultimately, in our future.
