Camp Fire USA Samish Council has been in existence since 1912. Camp Fire serves boys and girls, and is all-inclusive, welcoming everyone regardless of race, religion, socio-economic status, disability, sexual orientation or other aspect of diversity.
Camp Fire Programs are designed to develop self-esteem, decision-making skills, responsibility to self and community and outdoor skills. And, by the way, for kids to have fun!
The Club Program consists of 8-10 youth with two adult leaders who meet regularly throughout the school year. Activities include learning about self, family and community, exploring nature, camping, community service projects, and arts and crafts.
A new club program, Outdoor Discovery Club, serves youth in transitional housing due to poverty and/or violence. The kids will go on an all day, outdoor adventures. Transportation is provided and volunteer leaders recruited from local colleges create a ratio of one adult to three children. This club is a respite for kids who are homeless through no fault of their own.
Camp Kirby is a 47-acre summer camp on Samish Island along Padilla Bay. Camp Kirby has forest, tidelands, and saltwater beach. Youth attend overnight or day camp sessions. Activities include swimming, canoeing, kayaking, archery, hiking, challenge course, camping, arts and crafts and out-of-camp trips. The camp is open to Camp Fire members and non-members.
The Environmental Education Program takes place Spring and Fall at Camp Kirby. Designed for youth in grades 4 through 7, the program teaches shoreline and forest ecology and team building exercises. Serving public, private and home schools, this program can be one to five days long, depending on each school's needs.
Samish Council has owned and operated Camp Kirby since 1923. Camp Kirby is undergoing extensive renovations. Their latest project is the construction of a 50-foot climbing wall. Please help them continue to provide this tradition.
