Whatcom County is a wonderful place to live. Our high quality of life is attracting people and investment at an amazing rate. Along with this extraordinary growth comes an extraordinary challenge: when people move here with money made elsewhere, our housing market skyrockets. The growing disparity between wages and housing prices is putting homeownership out of reach for the working people of this county. These are people that care for our sick, teach our children, and keep our communities running, and they cannot afford to buy homes.

Kulshan Community Land Trust was formed in 1999 by a group of community-minded people to address this problem. Kulshan CLT strengthens community by holding land in trust for permanently affordable homeownership and other community needs, and by offering financial assistance and educational services.

Kulshan CLT is making the dream of homeownership a reality for people of limited means. Since July, when they kicked off their HomeBuyer Driven Program, Kulshan CLT has helped seven low-income households purchase homes in Whatcom County. Using the community land trust approach, these seven homes form the foundation of a growing base of permanently affordable homes ensuring that future generations of working people will always have homeownership options in Whatcom County.

Together, we can help low-income families achieve their dream of homeownership and build stable and empowered neighborhoods where everyone, regardless of income level, has place to call home. Your generous donation to Kulshan Community Land Trust will be a permanent investment in the social fabric of our community.
