The Whatcom Family YMCA has been providing key community services since 1890, over 112 years!
YMCA's mission is to be "an association of individuals with shared values, which enhance the community with programs for the spirit, mind and body". The Y's objective is to use programs as tools to build strong kids, strong families and a strong community.
YMCA builds strong kids by providing high quality programs such as childcare, outdoor adventure, camping, aquatics, youth sports and leadership development. Kids interact with caring adults in a safe environment, challenging them to develop stronger physical and mental skills. The YMCA's staff and programs emphasize four core values of character development: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
The YMCA builds strong families by providing safe, nurturing childcare - allowing parents peace of mind while working. Kids are included and encouraged, enabling them to feel successful among peers and siblings.
The YMCA builds strong communities by providing programs that grow healthy individuals, collaborating with other local agencies to strengthen one another and our community.
The YMCA serves over 6,000 members and 22,000 program participants each year. In 2001 we provided over 6.5 million hours of childcare for more than 700 kids throughout Whatcom County. More than 800 teens participated in one or more activities, and 300 kids under the age of 6 accompanied their families participating in youth sports. As a community service, we provide 250 shower passes monthly for individuals in need.
The Whatcom Family YMCA turns no one away due to the inability to pay. Scholarships and program subsidies are provided. In gratitude for its past and in appreciation for its continuing commitment to the community, please help this fine institution.
